Sabudana ( Sago ) Khichdi

A Maharashtrian favourite, this dish is typically eaten during fasting. It also makes a good snack, and can be eaten for breakfast as well.This recipe serves 3-4 people.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sabudana (sago)
  • 1 green chilly chopped finely ( optional as per taste)
  • 1/2 cup roasted and coursely crushed groundnuts
  • 1 boiled & peeled potato
  • 2 tablespoon ghee
  • a pinch of hing (asafoetida) 
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste 
  • 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric
  • Few Coriander leaves
  • Few Curry Leaves
  • 2-3 tablespoons lemon juice
Method:

  • Wash and soak sabudana in water for a minimum of 2 hours. After soaking drain the water away.
  • Chop the potatoes into small cubes and mix the crushed groundnuts in it.
  • Heat ghee in a non stick pan and add asafoetida and cumin seeds. When cumin seeds crackle add green chillies and curry leaves.
  • Next add the potatoes with crushed groundnuts.
  • Add turmeric and salt.
  • Mix in the sabudana gently. Cover the pan and cook in low heat for about 5 minutes.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Sprinkle some lemon juice over it and serve hot.
